Brand new puppies
Those first days are so precious with new lab pups

We are just a hair over three short weeks away from our next Labrador retriever litter, and I cannot even tell you how eager we all are. Their little squeaks and faces and first barks and cuddles are SO worth the wait. The kids are tossing around themes to name the litter and we are disinfecting our whelping area. Tomorrow we are putting our Belle into quarantine from the other dogs. This will help protect her during this final stage of pregnancy.

I know a lot of you are waiting for a new Labrador of your very own, and I know it’s hard to wait! A new litter of lab puppies is a wait for the breeder, too! It takes months (or longer) researching Labrador pedigrees and genetics; testing your Lab for any holes you see in her health history; watching disposition and “mama” readiness. By the time those sweet puppies arrive, we have been waiting months or years for that puppy breath. Ok, maybe not for the puppy breath, per se, but you get the point.

Gorgeous English Lab Puppy
Look at that face! A true English Lab beauty.
We have received so many emails and direct messages of people looking for a new lab puppy – I mean, what’s better than a Labrador puppy, come on? – and we are mostly thrilled with the families who have moved from “inquiry” to “reservation list”. We never want to breed more puppies than we can find loving homes for, and we are so grateful to have regularly found families who have owned labradors before, are familiar with the puppy stage, and are happy to jump into dog ownership.

Side note – I am trying to keep up on inquiries as best as I can! If you have emailed me and haven’t heard a response within 24 hours, please email again! Ok, back to my point.

We are so pleased with our program and our plans for lab puppies this upcoming year! We are just bursting at the seams. Our home and hearts are filled with charts, graphs, calendars, whelping supplies, new whelping boxes and on and on. (Surely I’m not the only one who goes calendar and chart crazy at the beginning of the year, right?!?! But really…. with all these amazing adult Labrador mamas and their soon-to-be-here puppies, I cannot take any chances that something will fall through the cracks. So, chart it! 🙂 )

Pure Bred Labrador
I LOVE the variations of shades in the yellow Labrador coat.

We are also grateful for so many families who have put their confidence with us and our program and have placed deposits waiting for upcoming litters. Please know that we are working hard for you and making sure you get the healthiest, most beautiful and well-tempered Labrador that the Colorado has to offer.

What am I getting at? There are many people who don’t want to wait until the summer or fall for a new puppy. That is TOTALLY understandable. Mother Nature ultimately makes those decisions, try as we may to control her. We try to be as accurate as we can when ESTIMATING the timeline for getting a new puppy from us. This may mean extending our families into Spring/Summer litters, with Summer/Fall go-home days. I feel simply awful that I can’t provide a perfect Kindred Pup Puppy to every loving home. Your emails and stories have shown me that you have loved your Labradors dearly and are great pet parents.

All I can tell you is that the RIGHT breeder makes all the difference. Be picky! Maybe even willing to travel! Are you in Colorado?! If not, shoot me a message! Delivery is available to areas outside Colorado. Make sure you feel comfortable with the level of knowledge your perspective breeder has! Make sure you feel comfortable with their puppy protocols and how they handle their dogs/pups. Make sure you feel comfortable with the level of communication! Being picky about this stage will save you oodles of stress and worry in the coming years. Your Labrador is going to live a loooooong time. Get the “right” one for you, even if it means waiting a little longer up front.

Thank you again for your support! Stay healthy.
