Some news, and a giggle
It’s been busy over here, as I mentioned last post. We have had so much interest in Molly’s next litter! It’s so wonderful to see how much people think of our Molly and her pups. I think she is just gorgeous, and her Sire, dear Kingsbridge Bronxx is a stud, too, is he not? (Pun intended.) We are seeing signs of a coming heat – rummaging through boxes, wanting extra food, barking a little more, extra cuddly – all things she did before her last heat. We are so excited for the process again. Please check our upcoming litter page for information on availability. But, there is also some other…

Hello, again!
I am sorry it has been a while since I last posted. We have been busy around here getting things cleaned up from our last litter, yes still!, and making sure Molly is happy and healthy as her next breeding approaches. Making sure your labrador gets plenty of exercise in winter can be challenging, but at least Molly doesn’t mind the snow! In fact, she puts me to shame. I find the cold keeps me from jogging far easier than it does her. So, are you wondering how cold is too cold for your dog? Well, keep in mind that there are a number of factors to consider, including what…

Prepping For Breeding
Since Molly has been given the green light from the vet for breeding, we have entered phase 1 – prep work. Your healthy labrador puppy and the process to get them to you begins far before you see their sweet snouts and swoon over their “puppy eyes”. It begins before we teach them to “mand” and before we introduce them to potty training. It precedes the first bath and first food and first photos. In fact, it precedes even birth and mating. It first begins with a healthy Mama. While we don’t ever want an unhealthy dog, we are especially careful not to “spoil” our Molly as she approaches breeding.…

My Hero
I never got a chance to mention one of the most wonderful things about this past litter. Our family welcomed our 6th, and final, baby into our family on November 19th, 2018. A sweet baby girl after 5, yes 5, sweet baby boys. To add to the craziness, we delivered her at home with a midwife, an assistant, and my loving hubby standing by. We were all thrilled to have her, of course, and both baby and I were feeling great. But very early signs of labor started for Molly in the afternoon of the 20th so we knew that puppies would be joining our new family very quickly! Sure…

Last Days
We have rounded the corner into our last days with these pups and we are all getting a little sentimental over here. Our oldest son, and the chief puppy lover over here, won’t let himself fully cry; we were going to sell these pups all along, after all. But I catch him with a tear in his eye a little more often these days as he snuggles with the pups. I find him crouched over their sleeping pen talking to them. Laughing with delight as they eat and tumble. His whole face lights up when they run to him at his whistle. Why my son chose to read through “Where…

Play Time!
Puppies, like children, often find the “non-toy” items more interesting than the toys you buy them! My husband and I have often wondered if a good box would be just as appealing as the new toy. But, we give in, and buy the toys anyway. Who wants to play with a chew toy when I can sniff this shovel? This pup drags his toy along with him while he patrols the fence for intruders. Who needs a toy when you have your sister? These two romped for several minutes. And, no, just for the record, these pups are not responsible for the chewed siding. That would be our 8 year…

Manding Training Begins To Take Root
Manding is one of the things these sweet pups have begun to learn here at Kindred Pup, and I certainly hope that our Kindred Pup families continue the process! Have you ever been at a park and seen a beautiful dog that you’d just love to meet and pet, only to be jumped all over? This new dog friend means no harm, and certainly doesn’t intend to send you to the dry cleaners; He just wants to let you know he’s friendly and that he’d like a nice chin rub. It’s us pesky adult humans that mind this behavior. Especially when the dog is an 80 pound labrador with muddy…

Thoughts on training
There are as many different thoughts on training techniques as there are trainers and wading through them can be intense! But which way is best? I say the answer is, within reason, whichever one you will actually do. Success comes from consistency. Our dog Ginger, who is close to 8 years old now, is affectionately referred to in our home as the Dowager Countess, paying homage to Downton Abbey. For those of you who haven’t seen the show, the Dowager is a cantankerous old woman who is simultaneously annoyed by and feels responsible for how the entire family runs. Ginger feigns annoyance with any inconvenience and shows herself the Matriarch…

Outside Play with Mama Molly
This unusually warm January weather has been so wonderful for our sweet winter pups! they’ve enjoyed their outdoor time immensely, and settle in for nice long naps afterward. It’s so fun to watch them discover new toys and get a little faster trot each time we are outside. Even though winter and pups (and my boys, eh hem) have all but destroyed our lawn, they don’t seem to mind the dirt. They tumble and get back up again without hardly skipping a beat! The pups are becoming less and less “molly’s babies” and more and more “molly’s playmates”. I just can’t tell you how fun it is to watch…

Celebrate!
All of our sweet pups have been spoken for and are very soon able to head to their new families! As a breeder you always hope (and do your best to ensure) that pups will find amazing homes with owners who will love them as much as you do. I am so happy to feel that this is the case with this litter. We are right in the throws of Puppyness over here, doing some training and making sure the pups get plenty of attention. We began “manding” training recently, and all the puppies have done wonderfully! I’ll try to get some pictures up for you soon of that process.…
